AAU Scholarship Program
GOAL: To assist student athletes who are members
of NY Metropolitan District AAU in furthering their college education.
ELIGIBILITY: The candidate must meet the following
criteria.
1. Be a senior in high school
2. Be a registered member of AAU for the past three consecutive years.
3. Meet Division 1 NCAA Clearing House requirements
4. Submit letters of recommendation from your last AAU coach, an opposing AAU
coach, AAU Club program director and a high school teacher
5. Complete an essay as required by the application
6. Submit a transcript of grades.
SELECTION: One male and one female athlete will be selected
for the award based on their academic and athletic achievements, their commitment
to sport, their overall achievements in AAU and youth sports in general.
AWARD: N.Y. Metropolitan District AAU Executive Board will award
two $2,500 scholarships each year (one male and one female recipient). The Awards
Committee will be comprised of the Governor, Registrar, Treasurer
and two other AAU members selected by the President.Mary Niklaus has been selected
as one of the at-large members for a period of three years. The Committee will
also select two outside business leaders to be part of the team selecting the
award recipients.
The awards will be presented to the winners at a luncheon hosted by the New York
Metropolitan District during the month of June. The award will be forwarded directly
to the college that the recipients will be attending by September 1st to be credited
toward tuition. It is noted that if the recipient receives a full athletic or
academic scholarship, the award will go to the first runner-up.
ENTRY DEADLINE: All required documents must be submitted to
the New York Metropolitan District AAU no later than May 31, 2010. The application
and supporting documentation must be forwarded to:
