UPDATED
REPORT - Boys Basketball teams... |
The Boys Basketball National Championships
have now been completed for 2005. Contrary to our earlier
report, our District actually sent 44 teams to participate
in AAU Championship events throughout the country this
summer. Over 500 male athletes represented the New York
Metropolitan District this year. The Gauchos organization
sent the highest number of teams with six. This is a tremendous
number of teams and athletes considering that teams and
organizations must fund their own travel and participation
in these national events. Despite such a burden, the athletes
return with great memories of competing against the top
players from all around the country. It is something that
each and every player will never forget regardless of the
actual wins and losses at the tournaments.

New York in these high caliber tournaments. The Gauchos,

In addition, the Metro Hawks had three teams participate
in the National Showcase events while the Gauchos had two

New
York Teams Excel in 13U Boys Basketball National Championships |
If the first two National Championship Tournaments of
2005 are indicators of what is to come, New York will enjoy
a banner year. In tournaments concluded on July 3rd in
Memphis, Tennessee, Team Next captured fifth place in the
13U Division I for the entire country. Their only loss
occurred in the Quarter Finals of the Championship Bracket
while they were victorious in seven games. Long
Island Lightning finished in twelfth place in the country
in the 13U Division II National Championship Tournament
that also was held in Memphis, Tennessee this past week.
They completed this competitive event with a record of
four wins and three losses. Over forty teams from New York
will participate in AAU National Basketball Championship
Tournaments held throughout the country this summer. Watch
this site for more highlights.

MESSAGE
from Cecil Watkins re:Basketball City Tournaments |
TO: All AAU Boys Basketball Teams FROM: Cecil Watkins
NY Metropolitan Boys Basketball Chairman RE: Basketball
City Tournaments
It recently came to my attention that Basketball City was
advertising their tournaments as AAU tournaments. This
is not true. If your team participates in non-sanctioned
AAU tournaments, please be aware that you are not covered
by insurance unless you purchased the Added Benefit Coverage
(AB) when you registered each one of your players. This
is a very serious matter and we do not want you to be misled
by this false representation. If you have any questions,
please call Jim Fox at 516 292-4956 or John Geosits at
1-800-AAU-4USA.
