Basketball - NY Metro AAU Regional Championships Recap... |

Kevin Jones was teams high scorer with 19 points as he led The Westchester Hawks to the regional championship. Tomorrow he will play in the iS8/Nike semifinals for Mt. Vernon
The NY Metro Regionals D1 Championships happened and didn't happen last night at the Island Garden in West Hempstead, NY. Here is the recap.
In the 15U Girls D1 District championships, the C.A.S. Douglass Panthers forfeited the game to the Silver Bullet's NY Elite apparently over a dispute regarding who would be refereeing the game. The losers however, were the players on both teams who never got the chance to play due to the action of adults.
The second game featured the Westchester Hawks Select vs. the Rockland Rockets for the 17U Boys D1 NY Metropolitan Regional Championships. Unfortunately the game was only close at the tip off. When the dust settled, the Westchester Hawks obiterated the Rockland Rockets 84 - 58.
The Westchester Hawks dominated the Rockland Rockets with superb shooting from Kevin Jones and Mookie Jones and quality point guard play from Trinity Fields. The lead balloned up to almost 30 pts at one point due to porous defensive play by the Rockets. When you have A.J Rogers of St. Anthony's in NJcoming off the bench you know your team is stacked.
The problem was the Hawks not only had a height advantage but was compounded by the Rockets missing shots opportunities. Guard Chris Diaz whose shot is usually butter literally missed all his jumpers. The only Rocket that showed up to play was Hakeem Williams who was the games high scorer with 26 points.
Kevin Jones was the high scorer for the the Hawks with 19 and Mookie Jones had 8 point with 2 critical threes. Both teams will head to the AAU Nationals however the win secures the Westchester Hawks a higher seed. The entire game will be available on the Internet on HSBNetwork.TV "The High School Basketball Network" starting June 4th. |

Basketball – Long Island Lightning Hosts College Recruiting Seminar... |
There are so many questions and unfortunately so much misinformation about the college recruiting and selection process when it comes to basketball. There is a tremendous need for unbiased and straight forward information so that proper decisions can be reached in this most important decision.
Members of the Long Island Lightning Girls Program have put together what will prove to be an informative and worthwhile evening. College coaches from Division l, ll and lll levels will speak about the recruiting process as well as the realities of college basketball. There also will be a presentation from an active player who will share her experiences both during the recruiting stage as well as her first season playing college basketball.
Please review the note to coaches and brochure. We hope you will be able to join us on June 7th. Click Here |

Boys' Basketball Announces Dates for 2007 District Championships |
The New York Metropolitan AAU will host its annual Boys Basketball District Championships (Regionals) beginning April 13 and continuing until Memorial Day with Championship Monday. Last year, over 300 teams participated in the various age groups and two different levels Level l and ll) with over 50 teams going on to compete in AAU National Championships during the Summer of 2006. New York has one of the largest participation rates in the entire country. We also are proud that teams from our district won three National Championships in 2006.
As a special attraction this year, the 17U Division l Finals will be broadcast over the Internet. Watch this site for further details in the weeks ahead. We also will be posting on the Internet results of the games immediately following completion of each and every game.
The separation between Division l and ll also provides an opportunity to a wide array of teams to compete at a level where there is a potential for success. Most teams are eligible to compete in both Division l and ll tournaments within the district.
All participants must be AAU members. AAU membership provides many benefits including eligibility to participate in top tournaments both locally and throughout the country, a full listing of sanctioned events and excellent insurance coverage to all members. AAU National Championships at both the 16U and 17U divisions are held during "live recruiting periods" and are attended by literally hundreds of college coaches. You must qualify to participate in these national events by participating and being successful at the District Championships. We are able to send a relatively large number of teams to each National event because of our excellent level of participation at District Championships.
For further information about either AAU membership or any AAU tournament, please contact Jim Fox at 516-292-4956.

Track & Field - District Championship Bid Guidelines Released |
In an effort to ensure that all youth, within the NY Metropolitan District AAU, have an opportunity to experience “Sports For All, FOREVER”, the district’s sports directors have been tasked with the delivery of the AAU motto to all of members that participate under their sport.
Many requests have come from the clubs in the district regarding the location of and hosting of the district championships. Remembering that the District Championship is an event to provide our youth the best opportunity to succeed, this guideline has been developed to address those concerns and to provide an even rotation of the championships throughout the district.
Click Here to download you copy of the guideline. As you read through the guideline, you will note that the due date for the outdoor district championship bid is no later than November 1st prior to the event. Because the guideline was released after the published date, the new date for all 2007 outdoor district championship bids is January 15, 2007. Remember that only Hudson Valley clubs may bid on any of the 2007 championships.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
